Hacienda El Obraje wasn't always a coffee farm. The Guerrero family grew wheat in Tangua for generations, until imports crashed domestic prices in the 1990s and Pablo went searching for a crop worth betting on. He planted his first coffee trees in 2000, the first of any of his neighbors, and by 2009 had built his own wet mill on the farm. That bet paid off publicly in 2021, when El Obraje took first place at the Colombia Cup of Excellence.

Nariño sits in Colombia's far south, where proximity to the equator lets coffee thrive at elevations that would be impossible almost anywhere else. At 2,200 meters, intense daytime sun and sharply cold nights slow cherry maturation to a crawl. That extended ripening is where Pink Bourbon earns its reputation: sugars concentrate gradually, acids stay bright and intact, and the variety's signature florality has time to fully form in volcanic soil.

This lot is classically processed and deliberately simple. Cherries are floated and sorted, then fermented whole in sealed bags for 36 hours before being depulped and dry fermented in barrels for another 12. Nothing in the process is there to add character, only to protect what the variety and the mountain already built.

What's in the cup is Pink Bourbon at its most articulate: jasmine up front, white grape sweetness through the middle, and a sparkling, yuzu-bright finish that carries long past the sip. Precise, expressive, and unmistakably Nariño.
